It is getting more and more difficult to find young apiarists in the Podhale region. Hardly anyone is willing to follow this trade. Nowadays beekeeping boils down to pleasure. My wife Teresa and I, Kazimierz Grusznis, have been keepig the apiary for almost thirty years now. It is situated only a few kilometers from Nowy Targ on the way to Maruszyna. I planted firs, lime-trees, elm-trees in order to shield the apiary against the road. There is also a stream nearby, making it a real haven of peace and tranquility.
There are around 40 beehives within the area of about 0.5 hectare. All of them were hand-made and their colours help the bees to orientate. The kind the produced honey depends on the one the bees gather, and this cannot be predicted since it depends on the weather, and we cannot control it. We are introducing new plants for the bees. For the last couple of years we have been sowing Tansy Phacelia called the queen of pollen and honey - giving plants.

Our second apiary is placed two kilometers away. There we raise the queen bees from the Polish, Austrian, Slovak and the Nepali breeds. Our plantation of herbs, including St Johns Wort and milfoil is also situated there. The herbs also grow by the bee-keeper's house. The herb garden with melissa and mint was created mainly to feed the bees in the winter but the plants are used also in the kitchen. We make tea of melissa and mint. Their flavour can be released by the addition of a tablespoon of honey. Apart from the production of honey, we also make candles and unique wax figures. We made all of the moulds ourselves. We offer over 40 kinds of candles, with different paterns and models.You can buy them yourself in the apiary or COD.What is more in our apiary we organise stationary shows, school trips, and bee-keepers' meetings. We are introducing novelties in the area of beekeeping what contributes to our sucess in the sphere.
